Parenting Time

Parenting time is something usually granted to the noncustodial parent, the parent who generally doesn’t live with and care for the child on a regular basis. Sometimes the the court will grant a certain amount of parenting time, and leave it to the parents to work out the days and times that the children will be picked up. Other times the court will be very specific about the details.

DO NOT REFUSE ANOTHER PARENT THEIR TIME!

Unless you have good reason to think the child is in immediate danger, do not make up reasons that you refuse to allow the other parent their scheduled time.

The following are NOT valid reasons to refuse another parent their court-ordered parenting time:

  • My husband or wife isn’t paying alimony
  • My husband or wife isn’t paying child support
  • My husband or wife is rude to me.
  • My husband or wife moved in with someone I do not like.
  • My husband or wife takes the to children to a sitter during their parenting time.
  • My husband or wife takes the children to family members or friends houses that are not appropriate or who I do not like.
  • My husband or wife has a new girlfriend/boyfriend.
